Birthday Gift

I hardly expect any birthday gift for my own. But of course, I do appreciate whenever I receive any. For me, a simple wish would do. That would definitely make my day. However, when my friends go an extra mile by sending me a card, a small token or any birthday gift, they will have a special place where I keep all the things that I treasure the most.

I remember during my schooldays, my close friends (there were 5 of us) would give me a book, knowing that I loved books the most. Well, actually we normally give books for each other's birthday. After the birthday girl finished reading the book, she would pass it on to any of us and in the end, all 5 of us would finish reading it.

Now, overwhelmed with individual commitments, we don't normally do that. I would normally text them a birthday wish. As we grow older, some of us doesn't really want to be reminded that we are getting old! But the joy of receiving and the memories that stays with it is wonderful indeed.

The other thing is that I also would buy something for my own birthday. Last 2 years (or was it the year before) I bought the whole set of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. I'm not sure what to get for myself this year. Perhaps the complete DVD of Lord of the Rings!

I don't just buy books simply because it is my birthday. I also buy books to commemorate an occasion. You know, kind of a reason for my to buy books. Of course, I don't need a reason to buy books. But I also like it to be this way. I remember immediately buying a book after I obtained the aggregate of 6 for my SRP. I bought 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. It was a less-than-RM10 book. But that's not the point. Each time I opened and read the book, I will remember why I buy the book, when and where I bought it.

For most of my books, besides writing or signing my name, I would normally put the date bought and where I bought it.
